Basic hygiene dictates cleaning one’s self, a shower at least perhaps once in 24 hours? Or as need be? Women spend a massive amount of time and effort in order to make themselves look perfect but most of these efforts are disproportionate since the face gets the maximum leverage and there maybe body parts that maybe left behind. For some, the only other skincare could include waxing the arms and legs and applying a so-so moisturizer once in a while. The only hair care could be to shampooing every now and then. Do we really understand the effects of under-washing the hair as we do about over-washing? 8 out of 10 women will tell you that over shampooing the hair makes it dry and that such magnitude of chemicals are not good but do we think about what happens when we don’t wash our hair enough? Let’s ponder…

8 Things That Happen When You Don’t Wash Your Hair Enough

  1. Dirty Scalp – One clear conclusion would be that grime and dirt gets accumulated on the scalp when the hair is not washed enough or thoroughly. Scalp has pores, like any other part of the body, and needs to be cleaned so it can breathe.
  2. Itch – This is also another common problem of not washing up enough. Excess debris often leads to itching, which leads to scratching which is abrasive to the scalp and hair follicles, which in turn causes dandruff-like flaking.
  3. Dirty Hair – Dirt gets accumulated in the hair just as the scalp. Hair is a non-living fibre, which means what it attracts stays there in between washes. The dirt is not going to leave just by itself.
  4. Loss of Hair – A well cleaned scalp will be able to produce more hair but when there is dirt accumulated then it makes the reproduction and replacement of hair follicles difficult. This gives a look of thinning hair.
  5. The Smell! – Yes, anything not washed for too long will pick up foul smells.
  6. Dullness – Dirty hair is filled with dust particles,  which cloud out the color and makes the hair look dull and less shiny.
  7. Headaches – Hair that is unwashed for a while is not able to carry off most hairstyles. So a messy bun or a ponytail is all you would be able to manage. The oiliness and sweat makes it heavier thereby putting a strain on the nerve endings around your hair follicles. This can cause headaches.
  8. Long Term Effects – Alas! Everything has a long term effect. When the hair is washed too much it can render it dry but no washing up enough can cause it to fall out and reduce the hairline. Of course how much to wash depends upon individual requirements but striking a balance is very important!

A healthy washing schedule teamed with proper use of dry shampoo = a perfect marriage!
