These days the race to attain beauty has made beauty creams a routine for every person. There are companies that sell chemical filled products to be applied at all times of day and night which will miraculously vanish all your problems. Thankfully they stick to skin problems only. Very soon they may even claim to cure your inter-personal issues. Do not be fooled by such marketing gimmicks. Take a step back and relax. Think about how much exposure your skin already has and how you can maximize the benefits from nutrients that your skin needs. Need someone remind you that nobody’s skin needs harsh chemicals? Natural and herbal remedies are good enough to tackle many (in fact almost all) skin problems.

Night creams are especially popular and no matter if it is a cream, serum or lotion form, you may not need as much of the chemicals that are getting introduced to your regime. The adverts promote how the skin needs rejuvenation and repair during the night time but is that all true? Let’s take some time to understand what happens to the skin during the night time and how much night cream you should actually be investing in.

When sleeping well, your body is by itself able to combat damage and provide you with a better complexion. It translates into the fresh look when you’ve had a good night! Stress hormones are controlled when asleep and produces a hormone called melatonin. Both of these have a naturally good effect on the skin. The former relieves of ugly stretch marks and controls discolouration. Whereas the latter is very crucial in creating antioxidants which helps reduce wrinkles and age spots. These hormones (or the control of them) are important to maintain skin cells that produce collagen. Think of it as a natural reset button for the skin. They help maintain the elasticity of the skin and reduce age lines.

The better and fuller rest you get at night translates into more natural benefits. Your skin needs no help if you are disciplined about your night regime. But let’s face it….early and stress free nights are not always possible. In such cases supplementing the routine with melatonin tablets or moisture attracting creams (moisture not oil!) will help. Keep an eye on the ingredients that go into the products. Remember, natural is better. A good diet and balanced sleeping habits are of course foremost important when taking care of the skin and keeping it supple.
